Il ponte, che attraversa Rio di Palazzo, ha assunto il nome di Ponte dei Sospiri nel diciannovesimo secolo. Collega il palazzo del Doge alle antiche prigioni utilizzate nel corso del diciassettesimo secolo. E deve il suo nome al sospiro dei detenuti che lo attraversavano, uscendo dalla stanza degli interrogatori e diretti verso le celle a cui erano destinati dando l’ultimo sguardo alla laguna e alla libertà |
The bridge, which crosses the Rio di Palazzo, has assumed the name Bridge of Sighs in the nineteenth century. Connects to the ancient palace of the Doge's prisons used during the seventeenth century.
